Impressions …
Having removed my shoes,
How different!
As I enter the temple.
By the bank of the river;
pointing to God
- the washer-man.
Smoking …
with an old man,
I cannot pretend to be otherwise.
Night-time has fallen …
thousands of bodies,
Lying draped in the streets.
That cloudy afternoon,
a boy and I chased a rat,
our shorts and sandals dancing.
As I wander the temple …
swallows dart to & fro,
- the cool stone!
Unhindered …
the huge white cow …
rests in the road.
Twilight on the hotel verandah,
witnessing huge black fruit-bats,
cascading from the trees.
Tied to a coconut tree,
The tail of a manta-ray.
Ferocious mid-day heat!
Under a full moon,
a hundred hippies
dance to Stevie Wonder …
